Workshop at DAPC - How to Create Vibrant Neighbourhoods by Dr Alexander Jachnow

Below are the details for the upcoming workshop by Dr Alexander Jachnow at the Department of Architecture, Planning and Construction DAPC from the 9th of November 2023 to the 17th of November 2023 The workshop explores the conditions for developing vibrant neighborhoods by assessing external influences, challenges, and integrative planning approaches. The focus is on those elements that can be changed and can support making housing more achievable, accessible and realistic.During the 4 thematic sessions, strategic action plans will be developed by assessing political, economic, sociological, technological, legal, and environmental factors. The aim is to identify entry points for meaningful change. About the facilitator: Dr Alexander Jachnow Adjunct Professor, NUST Dr. Jachnow has dedicated his professional life to urbanization in the South, specializing in capacity development, urban planning, governance and management. He is a graduate in architecture and urban planning from Berlin TU and holds a specialization in housing studies from the UNAM/ Mexico City. He built the Urban Development Technical Facility of the EU Commission and worked as lead researcher and lecturer at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS), Rotterdam. His practical work experience include slum upgrading in Brazil, housing design and construction in Mexico and field research and program reviews on urban topics in countries all over the world. He completed his PhD on the topic of civil society in urban development and housing in Latin America. His main interests focus on the challenges and opportunities of the urbanisation in the Global South.
