NUST’S WORLD OF REAL WORK SEMINAR

NUST’S WORLD OF REAL WORK SEMINAR

Namibia University of Science and Technology’s Mechanical and Marine Engineering department hosted a World of Real Work Seminar, from the 09 April to 12 April 2018. The purpose of the seminar was to enlighten students on what happens in the industry and on what they are required to do to have a successful career. Different companies and organisation were invited to give information and tell what they require from students, as well as some NUST alumni who came to give motive to engineering students. Students also went for site visits just to see real engineering being practised.

The seminar consisted of 13 presentations from industry and 3 site visits. Throughout the week student feedback was collected. Student feedback shows that the best rated session was the visit to the Am Weinberg Estate construction site, facilitated by Mr Fellemon Kaitungwa. On average, industry visits scored 94% and industry presentations scored 86%. Student feedback confirms the need for regular such seminars.

Industry collaboration was not only well received, but even congratulated on the proactive initiative taken by NUST towards the improvement of engineering graduates during this difficult economics time. Many senior engineers from industry had the opportunity to visit NUST and interact with students. Good feedback was received on the willingness and eagerness of our students participating in the student seminar during their recess period. It can be expected that many companies will even participate financially in upcoming student seminars.

The next Real World of Engineering Work Student Seminar is planned for the August 2018 recess period.
