Biography

Ivonne Makando is a lecturer in Geo-Information Technology at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) since October 2024. She holds a Master of Spatial Sciences and an Honours Degree in Geo-Information Technology from NUST, along with a BSc Honours in Population Studies and Geography from the University of Namibia (UNAM).

She has extensive experience in spatial sciences and statistics, having worked as a Regional Statistician at the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) for about 10 years, where she supervised national surveys and census projects. Her career also includes roles in actuarial consulting, quality assurance, and data analysis.

Ivonne has received numerous academic accolades, including awards for being the overal best student in the Statistics department, best student in Demography, Epidemiological Methods, and Population Projection. Recognized as one of Southern Africa’s young scientists under SPACES II, she was further awarded the best grade 12 learner in Caprivi region at NSSO level. She is passionate about applying geospatial techniques to solve real-world challenges and is committed to research and community service.
