Description

The Bachelor of Architecture Honours (B. Arch. Hons) is developed for students who intend to pursue careers in Architecture and related fields. The programme is designed to provide students with deepened comprehensive and systematic knowledge and skills in the field of architecture and to develop their research capacity using the principles, theories and methodologies of the profession.

 

Admission Requirements 

Applicants holding a Bachelor of Architecture degree, obtained from the Namibia University of Science and Technology, will be 
evaluated by the Departmental Postgraduate Selection Committee on academic merit, based on the minimum average mark of 
60% for their third year courses, and with regards to the maximum intake per academic year. Candidates who do not meet the 
above requirements are advised to gain a minimum of one year work experience in an architectural office, to develop a portfolio 
of work experience, with which  they are encouraged  to  re‐apply in  the next available academic year. Such candidates will be 
invited  for  an  interview  with  the  Departmental  Postgraduate  Selection  Committee,  including  a  portfolio  review,  as  per 
requirements set out by the Department. 

Applicants holding a Bachelor of Architecture degree obtained from any other recognised Tertiary Education Institution, at NQF
Level 7 worth a minimum of 360 credits or holders of an equivalent pre‐NQF 3‐year qualification in the field of architecture, of a 
recognised Tertiary Education institution are eligible for admission for the “B” Arch Hons programme. Such qualifications will be 
evaluated  by  the  Departmental  Postgraduate  Selection  Committee to  determine  equivalence  in  terms  of  core  competencies, 
acceptable to the Department. 

In addition, candidates must have obtained a minimum average mark of 60% in Year 3 courses. Candidates who do not meet the 
above requirements are advised to gain a minimum of one year work experience in an architectural office, to develop a portfolio 
of work experience, with which they are encouraged to re‐apply in the next available academic year. Eligible candidates will be 
invited for an interview with the Departmental Postgraduate Selection Committee, including a portfolio review of relevant study 
experience,  as  per  requirements  set  out  by  the  Department.  The  decision  of  the  Departmental  Postgraduate  Selection 
Committee is final and no discussion of the results with the candidates will be entertained. 

 

Career Opportunities

Career possibilities for graduates completing and leaving the programme at the exit level are bright and diverse as follows: 

Graduates can take up careers in a wide range of areas in the built environment industry. Specifically they have opportunities in professional architecture firms as candidate Senior Architectural Technologist. They may also seek employment in professional firms for construction management, production of construction materials and equipment or specialise assubcontractors in a building project. Furthermore they may seek employment with local and municipal authorities and Government; Graduates who wish to pursue professional careers as architects, or related fields such as Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Project Management and Urban Design; In addition, graduates of the programme may join academia to impart knowledge and skill and or be involved in research for development.
