Message from the HOD

Welcome to the Civil Engineering Department site. Civil Engineering department is divided into five sectors: Water and Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transport Engineering. These sectors are headed by sector heads.

Our Services ... include research and consulting services in the sectors water and environment, geo-technical engineering, urban and transport engineering, structural engineering and project management.

The department owns unique equipment in the Construction materials and water engineering laboratories. The equipments in the construction materials laboratory include the thermal conductivity, concrete crushing machine, flexural beam testing machine, hydrometer, consolidation machine, shear box machine, marshal test machine, penetrometer, micro cover meter to mention a few. Tests and services that can be offered by the construction laboratory are, hydrometer, specific gravity, sieve analysis, consolidation, soil shearing strength, plasticity, compaction, Compressive strength test on all standard bricks and blocks, compressive strength test on all standard cubes, bending test on all standard kerbs, aggregate testing (grain size crushing, flakiness and elongation), abrasion test. The equipments in the water engineering laboratory include the spectrophotometer, turbidity meter, Ph, TDS, Dissolved Oxygen, Conductivity meters, BOD and COD machines, Soil analysis kit, Irrigation water analysis kit. The services that can be offered by the water engineering laboratory include water and wastewater quality analysis (physical, inorganic and organic), soil fertility analysis and irrigation water analysis. The public is welcome to enquire about these services.
