Biography
Chandrasekar is a Structural Engineering Lecturer, Structural Designer, and Consultant with over 32 years of combined experience in academia and professional civil engineering practice. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering from renowned universities in South India.
He began his professional career as a practicing engineer, gaining valuable industry experience as both a Site Engineer and a Structural Design Engineer. After four years in professional practice, he transitioned into academia, where he has served at several prestigious higher education institutions, including Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, Hosur (India), Hawassa University, and Debre Berhan University (Ethiopia).
During his tenure in Ethiopia, his significant contributions to curriculum development, engineering education, and research were formally recognized by both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Works. In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, he actively participated in structural design and consultancy projects through the consultancy wings of the universities. Among his notable professional contributions are the structural design and consultancy of the Gedeo Zone Stadium in Dilla, Ethiopia, and the structural design review of a two-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge across the Genale River on the outskirts of Benza, Ethiopia.
Throughout his distinguished career, Chandrasekar has acquired extensive expertise in the application of several internationally recognized structural design standards, including the Indian Standards (IS Codes), Ethiopian Building Code Standards (EBCS), Eurocodes, British Standards (BS), and the South African National Standards (SANS). His broad exposure to diverse international design codes, combined with his practical engineering experience and academic leadership, enables him to bridge the gap between engineering theory and professional practice, contributing effectively to engineering education, research, and consultancy.
